Learning with Laptops
Learning with Laptops
What is LWL?
Learning with Laptops is a teacher action research program in collaboration with McGill University. NFSB teaching teams apply to participate in a two-year study during which time they teach in an immersive ICT environment with a focus group of students while also acting as teacher-researchers.
Teaching teams pursue research questions that they themselves ask about their practice. Once a month, teams from the participating schools meet for a full day to share practices and reflect on their documentation with the RECIT consultant and McGill researchers. This group of “critical friends” maintains online professional conversations between meetings through the use of tools such as blogs and wikis.

A New Frontiers - McGill Collaboration
f we were to remove the obstacles preventing the meaningful integration of technology into classroom practices; if we were to provide teachers with reliable technology and support; in other words, if we were to create the best possible conditions, then what difference would it make in student learning?
LWL
Teachers’ daily integration of the laptops is tied closely to the curriculum. They plan Learning and Evaluation Situations (LES) in which technology is used as a vehicle to develop competencies. Teachers engage in on-going reflection and assessment, and publish their findings at the end of each year.
